Top 3 priorities of our nation in 21st century.

Like every Indian I too am concerned about the progress and prestige of my country and I wish that India relishes the image of a highly cultured, clean and developed country in this 21st century. As a responsible and sensitive citizen of India my top three priorities to work for on urgent basis for the betterment of our country are as under---
(1) Health and sanitation
(2)  Education and employment
(3)  Awareness of rights and duties
Health and sanitation – It’s a matter of shame that India is ill famed as one of the dirtiest countries of the world. As we move around the cities we find heaps of filth and garbage everywhere. In rural areas conditions are even worse. Our roads, parks, hospitals, railway stations, markets, public toilets, even govt. offices and surrounding areas of temples happen to be quite dirty. The tourists who come from foreign countries to visit India notice these unhygienic conditions and go back to their own countries with a very bad image of our country. Most of the beautiful things of India like our great architecture, colorful dresses, natural beauty, great cuisine, our cultural diversifications and simplicity of average citizen etc. are over shadowed by this ugly sight. It is not a matter of ugly sight only living in such unhygienic conditions is the main reason of most of the diseases which are rampant all over India. Basic hygiene only can reduce diseases up to 75%. Not only it’ll curtail our budget expenses we will enjoy good health and will have more happiness and smiling faces around us.
Education and employment – One of the important reasons of our most of the problems is poverty. Poverty is the byproduct of unemployment, insufficient employment and irregular employment. The paradox is this that we have the problem of unemployment and the shortage of skilled manpower at the same time. The reason is simple. Our present education system does not make us skilled enough to cater the needs of manpower market requirements. In our present education system there is a good scope of corrections and retrospection. I’ll like to pass out every single student as a trained and skilled person who devotes eight to ten precious years of his life in getting basic education. This will enable him to earn his living gracefully with the education he has received during these years. What I want to say that instead of theoretical knowledge we should focus our concentration on vocational training. Higher education is also necessary and the students who wish to pursue for research work and other academic achievements may opt for it as per their interest. For rest of the students this kind of education should be available in different formats like online classes, evening classes, or through correspondence courses. Such courses do exist today but there is need to make them more popular so that most of the students may get benefitted by this system and may also continue with their job too. There should be groups of the experts from the market, Industries and futurologists to help and guide students in skill selections for their better career.
Awareness of rights and duties – Indian constitution is perhaps the largest in this world and no doubt it has proved its worth by making India world’s largest and successful working democracy. Despite our cultural diversities in religion, languages and economic conditions our constitution takes us along and gives us a feeling of being a proud citizen of our country. This constitution has given us many rights but each right is associated with a reminder of a duty to be fulfilled by us. E.g. We have the constitutional right of the freedom of speech and we can express our views whatever we think but there is an inbuilt duty also that we should not say anything which may hurt the feeling of our fellow persons, we cannot abuse anyone. Similarly we have the right to follow any religion but we are duty bound to respect the religious customs of other persons. We should not say bad things about other religions. Our constitution is great. It has given us many rights but at the same time it makes us aware of our duties also. We should enjoy our rights but we should never refrain from performing our duties being a responsible citizen. There should be big efforts to educate everyone about this aspect in the same way as it was done to educate people for polio drops and family planning.
In my views these three problems need our focus and attention at the most. If these three issues are handled properly it will generate so much positive energy that our remaining problems will be solved automatically and we will relish the fresh air of 21st century in even more bright, healthy and vibrant India.

THE MOMENT WHEN I WAS REALLY FRIGHTENED

It was a dark night and I was having my dinner in candle light with my family members. TV was also silent as it was a normal cut down of power in the night. Darkness always scares me and I was not in a very good mood. Suddenly I saw a bright light coming out of my room upstairs. It amazed me and just to know the source of this light I headed towards my room leaving my food unfinished.
I saw a girl sitting in a white dress on my bed. A cold vibe ran through my veins. With all my courage and heart I moved my feet one by one towards her. I was really scared. She turned towards me and asked me to go and say goodbye to my parents and other family members as this may be the last time I would be able to do so. Hearing this for a moment my body fell pale and my hands became as cold as ice. I ran towards the lobby and started looking for my family but was not able to find them. I was all heartbroken and decided to go back to my room. The girl asked me to lie down and go into a deep sleep. I did so, and closed my eyes. I was able to see every moment of my life in front of my eyes and then suddenly a countdown started. 5…4…3…2…1….0...0…………
I was not able to feel anything. My heart fell numb and I thought it was the end of my life.
But, then I heard a voice and felt something wet on my face. With lot of efforts I managed to open my eyes and saw my mother and my pet dog Samrat standing there. I was overjoyed seeing them and finding myself alive. This was the time when I was really frightened.

No More Homework ! Please……

No More Homework   !  Please……

Excess load of homework is the biggest problem of the students these days. No doubt homework is an essential part of our teaching system but given indiscreetly it certainly tends to distract students' focus from the subjects which really need more concentration and real hard work.
There are so many subjects in the curriculum and each subject is taught by different subject teacher in the class. Every teacher finds it his or her fundamental right to give homework to the students in substantial amount unaware of the fact that how much the students have already been burdened by the homework given by other teachers. The pressure of homework is so much that at least 3 to 4 hours are fixed in daily routine of a student to wrestle with the books of different subjects.
After school hours a child requires at least two hours to reach home, to freshen up, to have lunch and to relax for a while and that too if he lives in a close proximity of the school. For the students who live in distant areas one can easily double up the time I stated before. Consequently they require further more time to reach home and finish their daily chores. Immediately after that again they are glued to the study table without wasting a single moment in any kind of extra activity like outdoor games or watching informative or entertaining programs on TV. Neither can they devote some time in chiseling their hobbies or in satisfying their urge of creativity. Instead they are forced to finish the non productive homework having left no stamina for actual and most essential studies. It should certainly be given a thought that the children are human beings, they are not robots. If the child fails to finish the homework he gets scolding and punishment in the class in front of his friends and classmates. This kind of treatment disheartens and demoralizes him immensely resulting in his disinterest in studies and disrespect for the teacher concerned.
Then how to get rid of this problem! I think there is one logical solution to solve this problem amicably. The teachers should assess the strength and weaknesses of their students in each class. For example if a student is weak in Physics but is strong in Literature he should be exempted from the burden of the homework in Literature. If another student is weak in Mathematics and is doing well in Chemistry why should he be forced to waste his precious time on the homework of Chemistry while he needs more time to concentrate on Mathematics? A student weak in Physics needs more time to clear his concepts on the difficult numerical of the subject instead of writing the essay on the topics like “How did he spend his summer vacations” or “ A boat ride on a full moon night” which already is his strong subject and he always scores good marks in it.
The capabilities, interests and the weak and strong points of the students should be valued and taken notice of. This consideration would leave them with a lot of spare time which will enable them to focus and concentrate on their weak subjects and this will definitely benefit them in their studies. The aim of homework should be to improve and increase their skills and speed, sharpen their imagination and memory and develop their interest in studies. But these days the pattern of homework is casting a negative effect on the psyche and mental health of the students as well as on their studies. Just think over it, is it justified that all the students are loaded with the burden of homework on equal basis while they need to put more efforts on their weak subjects. No way sirs! This is an important matter of their studies. It is not the ‘Prasad’ of a ‘Mandir’ which is meant to be distributed among all the devotees in a uniform pattern and in the same amount and quantity. So this is my genuine request to all the teachers and the authorities concerned that please think over this problem and do something to save the children from this unhealthy trend of homework and please do come out with a logical solution to save their souls.

Students are over burdened with the homework system prevalent in schools these days. They do not have enough time to concentrate on their weak subjects. Do you have any logical solutions?
